Wendell Folks RV-8 Project - Page 63.

September 18, 2007:  The canopy skirt is the thing tonight.  Getting the two sides butted up evenly is the goal for this evening's session.

A few more clecoes have been added to the sides of the canopy skirts.  The aft ends of the skirts have our attention now.

It is getting closer to what we want, but not yet.

The forward edges of the canopy skirts will eventually tuck in under the fiberglass layers that will bond the windshield to the fuselage.  Additional trimming to the skirts will be needed as we go to the fit of the windshield to the roll bar and align it to the plexiglass canopy.

September 19, 2007:  This evening continues with the drilling of the latch handle hole in the skirt.  The latch had to be installed to determine the fit of the skirts to butt up against the forward top skin when the canopy if closed and latched in place.

An aluminum plate is now clecoed in postion to hold the aft ends of the canopy skirts together.  The Sharpie pen marks indicate a future trim line of the skirts if needed.

September 20, 2007:  (Thursday evening.)   The outside latch handle was discussed in last night's work session.  I gave Wendell instructions on where to trim and polish off the corners of the handle and here is the result of his work today.

At this point, we thought it would be a good idea to see some completed RV-8 airplanes.  I used the Van's Airforce white pages and called two RV-8 pilots who live in Georgia.  Both agreed to a visit from Wendell and me on Saturday of this week.  It sounds like we get to go flying since the weather is showing possibilities for VFR flights on Saturday.
